PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat has urged Pakatan Rakyat members to be humble in accepting PAS’ victory in the Kuala Terengganu by-election on Saturday.
“I want to appeal to all concerned not to come out with statements that can hurt (feelings of those who lost).
“…be “a gracious winner” and not utter snobbish remarks that could hurt the feelings of those who lost…Don’t hurt the feelings of opponents because if they are hurt, it will be difficult for us to convince them of our struggle” (Bernama)
“If we hurt the vanquished it would be difficult to woo them into our party,” he told reporters at the airport here before leaving for Kuala Lumpur.
PAS candidate Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut beat Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh with a 2,631 vote majority in the parliamentary by-election.
Nik Aziz said winning was not as important as the shift of the voting trend.
“People are beginning to understand what the party stands for,” he said.
In Petaling Jaya, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said the result was historic and delivered an important message.
“It confirms that the paradigm shift in Malaysian politics some 10 months ago was no fluke but represented deep-seated and wide-ranging political aspirations of Malaysians,” he said in a statement.
